Lab Services
Managing CKD relies heavily on lab tests like eGFR (blood) and uACR (urine) to gauge kidney function and damage, guiding treatment to slow progression, manage complications (like electrolyte imbalances), and protect cardiovascular health, as early detection and monitoring through these labs are crucial for protecting kidney and heart health.
If you find and treat kidney disease early, you may be able to manage CKD and prevent other health complications. But the only way to know how well your kidneys are working is to get tested.
Why Labs Are Important
- Diagnosis & Staging: eGFR and uACR are the primary tools to diagnose CKD and classify it into stages (1-5).
- Early Detection: Most CKD is silent, so regular screening (eGFR & uACR) in at-risk individuals (diabetes, hypertension) is vital.
- Monitoring Progression: Frequent testing helps track if the disease is worsening, guiding treatment adjustments and identifying when a specialist (nephrologist) might be needed.
- Managing Complications: Labs reveal issues like high potassium, anemia, and bone disease that need treatment.
- Protecting Heart Health: CKD and heart disease are linked, and managing kidney labs helps protect both.

- Many of our offices offer in-house lab collection services by appointment for our established patients and we can schedule your next lab appointment before you leave the office.
