Home Therapies

Dialysis services done in the comfort of your own home or on the road, on your schedule.

If eligible for home therapies you may have:

  • Improved outcomes
  • Better blood pressure
  • Less fatigue
  • Fewer diet restrictions
  • Flexibility with daily routines.

Key Considerations

Home therapies provides freedom and independence from a conventional dialysis unit.

A nurse is available 24/7 by phone for assistance with HHD and PD.

On average, people on home therapies feel better and have better clinical outcomes.

You may have less restrictions in your diet with frequent dialysis treatments.

Discuss with your nephrologist which dialysis option would be best for you and your lifestyle.

Home Hemodialysis (HHD)

Home hemodialysis uses a device called a dialyzer to clean your blood directly via your fistula or graft.

    • Treatments are done in the comfort of your own home on your own schedule.
    • Treatment sessions are performed with a care partner 3-6 days a week.
    • Shorter recovery time after treatments.
    • People on HHD can continue to travel almost anywhere.

Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)

Peritoneal dialysis utilizes your own abdominal lining, or peritoneum, to filter your blood of toxins and remove excess fluid.

    • Treatments, or exchanges, can be done almost anywhere, with or without assistance.
    • Many people can do their exchanges while they sleep with the help of a cycler.
    • PD does not use needles to clean your blood.
